Brazilian Production on Scientific Research Polar

Abstract

Due to the characteristics of polar science, the development of a database of thematic data faces many challenges. Aiming to measure the scientific production about Antarctica and understand the role of human and health sciences, besides the contributions of Information Science, a bibliometric analysis of international repositories and of national information available has been carried out in order to quantify the data. Therefore, it has been noticed that Brazil presents consistent polar scientific production. However, contrasting to international results, the country has not carried out human dimension related projects. Finally, it is suggested that the thematic repository become a methodological tool pursued by institutions that encourage Brazilian polar science, as well as the insertion of metadata management.
