Abstract

This paper is focused towards a reflexive analysis regarding the importance of information access to the public administration within the European Union (EU). It presents a state of the art about information in the public sector, its actual importance (challenges, problems and solutions), and a review of the regulations about the use of the public sector information and regulations regarding public access to EU documents. This paper also presents some guidelines of strategic planning until 2010, along with the progress made over the last few years. It highlights the evaluation of information transparency of Community institutions through the statistics available on their webpages, through which the interoperability with European citizens is confirmed.
