Abstract

This article proposes the use of Catalis (cataloguing free software) as an auxiliary tool in cataloging courses or document analysis. Due to the recent release of these tools in the Internet, an important number of library science students in Mexico are not familiar with its use and application. This situation represents an obstacle in their academic education. Besides, this paper presents just a first indication of what free software is. This article also provides a list of some world open-code systems, which can be useful for students and professionals of information.
