Abstract

Through a historical and philosophical analysis this paper discusses whether it is legitimate to include Information Sciences in the area of Social Sciences. The analytical exposition method has been used to solve this issue. It is noted that proposals to identify the epistemological foundations of the information Science from mid-twentieth century, show an evolutionary process that identifies it with epistemological aspects that are characteristic of Social Sciences, thus justifying its inclusion in them.
