Abstract

The workflow systems are becoming a technological tool that provides the possibility to automate and to manage electronically generated documents. It allows the development of solutions in the information systems, granting benefits and advantages in the improvement of control process and activities, saving time and productivity increase, a better attention and customer service, optimizing the information spreading. All of it is done in such a way that it is possible to take the highest advantage in the spreading, storage and recovery of the intellectual patrimony. The elaboration of the model of a workflow system for the automation and electronic management of the research process and knowledge generation in the Faculty of Information and Documentation Systems at La Salle University started with the analysis of needs, desires, expectations and demands of the Faculty processes in order to generate an archetype to be used as a guideline for the modelling of the other processes (Academic Formation Process and Extension and Social Projection Process) that are developed in the Faculty. For the elaboration of the Workflow Model, it was necessary to make a proposal of a Manual of Processes and Procedures of the Faculty, as well as modelling the technological tool KNOWLEDGE TREE, which allows the creation of a repository and workflows of documents with audit and control of versions, metadata management, search inside the content of the documents with technology of complete text, access to the information in an efficient way and the connectivity and integration in local or remote accessing.
