ANALYSIS OF THE EMPLOYMENT OF QUALIFIED STAFF IN LIBRARIES AND ARCHIVES IN COLOMBIA

Abstract

The analysis of the current situation of employment in Libraries and Archives allows to determine the trends in employment and the current situation of Librarian professionals in the country. This research presents results which permit to understand the employers’ needs and the profiles that universities that offer studies in these fields of knowledge have to form. This research was developed from a survey applied to a significant group of people linked to this sector who had professional, technical or technological education. The analysis starts from the presupposition that sector needs are higher than demand, which supposedly is a good environment for Librarians and Archivists. This research identified some useful elements to define working competences for the staff of libraries and archives, which serve as input for the education programs in both fields.
